How are you submitting?

"Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them."

Colossians 3:18-19

An Entertaining but Precious Topic

The verse above has been the topic of discussion for our small group this past week. As you can imagine, this can be a somewhat entertaining piece of scripture to discuss. In a lighthearted way, there were several comments about the “wives, submit to your husbands” section. Especially in the wake of most husbands being absent the past few weeks for deer season & football games, myself included.

However, as we explored the scripture further and continued into discussion; the tone changed. The men in the room all began to consider and discuss these questions...

What does loving our wives actually look like today?

How do we need to live this out?

A Husband’s Love Must be Sacrificial

Are we sacrificing so that our wives have a more pleasant life? For example...

Getting up a few minutes early to have breakfast ready for the family.

I’m sure you would agree that losing 20 minutes of sleep to have a happy wife is well worth it!

A Husband’s Love Must be Personal

Do we take notice of the simple things that our wives enjoy? Here are a few more suggestions...

Remember some of your most special dating moments that you had with your wife early on.

Take a moment to tell her that she looks especially pretty on a certain day.

Pay Special Attention

During this busy holiday season, I encourage each of you to pay special attention to your wife and her needs.

How can you help her stress level during this holiday season?

What tasks can you take off her plate?

Maybe make a Sunday trip to Kroger during a football game or you could volunteer to go shopping a few times. I promise it will be appreciated! After all, she is more precious than jewels! (Prov. 31:10-11).
