Avoid idol worship!

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.

Matthew 22:36-39

The Primary "F" Our MD5 content revolves around Faith, Family, Friends, Finances, Fitness, and Free Time (margin). All of the content is important in our pursuit to become more like Christ in every area of life. Yet, one component reigns supreme—our Faith. It is not just one of the items we cover, our faith is at the center of it all. Idol Worship Anything that comes before our faith—that personal relationship with Christ—is actually an idol. Anything. If we seek to please our family more than God, family can become an idol. If we prioritize horizontal relationships with people over our vertical relationship with God, friends can become an idol. If we pursue financial goals with more passion than spiritual goals, our finances can become an idol. If we spend more time investing in fitness than investing in our relationship with Christ, fitness can become an idol. If our free time (margin) is used primarily for our pleasure versus serving God, free time (margin) can become an idol. Worshiping God is Supreme Let’s remember today that every aspect we cover in MD5 is important, but the Great Commandment—loving God with our heart, soul, and mind—is supreme. This is the “great and first commandment.” Anything taking its place is an idol. Anything!
